Country Code: (60). Outgoing international code: (00). IDD is available. Sabah offers efficient modern telephone, telex, telegraph and airmail communications both internally and globally. International cables or telegrams may be sent from any post office in Sabah. Telephone service is dependable and quick. Public phones are plentiful and easy to use.

 

Telephone cards are widespread. There is direct dialing between Sabah and all international cities using the STD codes. There are a number of English-language newspapers published in Sabah, Malaysia. Click here for more info.

 

For wireless communications, Sabah has international roaming for most wireless GSM and PCN phone systems. Private GSM phone systems are:

 

1. Celcom Mobile - a cellular phone company providing GSM (900) system. Code (019) Statewide Coverage.

2. Maxis Mobile - a cellular phone company providing GSM (900) system.  Code (012) Major towns coverage.

3. Time Cel - a cellular phone company providing PCN (1800) system.  Code (017) Major towns coverage.

4. Digi 1800 - a cellular phone company providing PCN (1800) system.  Code (016) Major towns coverage.

 

Visitors who wish to have access to a mobile phone in Sabah will need to bring along a dual band handphone that uses sim card and you can purchase a prepaid card from any cellular phone outlet for around US$53.00 with no sign-up required. An air time of RM50.00 is inclusive. Please check the company's website for more information.

 

The prepaid card will let you have access to make local calls to outlets without using international roaming. By letting have your friends and business partners your number in Sabah, you can stay in contact and available at all times.

 

Internet Services

 

Internet services are widely available throughout Sabah. Most lodges and budget hotels offer internet, and all major hotels have excellent facilities. Or go around the block in KK and you should find many internet cafes that provide access to the net and you can view or download you emails, send post cards and let those at home know what you are up to. In internet cafes, charges are as low as US$1.00 onwards per hour!
